The first "City Project Photography Installation" was held in the Boston Public Garden the summer 2006 and the 24 photographs of the Garden will be on view and available for sale during the opening (as an silent auction and then throughout the exhibition.)

This was BPC first of the upcoming City Projects by photographing Boston's jewel, the Public Garden, and then holding the first ever "Photo Installation" in Boston.

The idea was inspired from great artists ,Christo and Banksy. The "City Installation, the Public Garden" accomplished a sense of art being accessible rather than elitist. It conveyed a sense of freedom . The subjects were pleasing to look at ,although the 12 photographers had achieved a technically strong image but they were not overly complex and not intimidating.

Saturdays in August, 12 photographers and 14 volunteers stood in the Public Garden at the sites we had photographed, holding our large-scale a-political photographs and talking to visitors and passers-by, who did a doubletake, stopped and asked us just what we were doing! We weren't surprised they asked, as no one had ever done this in Boston before! Some people guessed we were protesting, or "angry" until they saw the photos up close. One person said, "I thought you were an anti-war group, until I saw the photo of a squirrel, and decided, No, that can't be right." One young boy asked shyly if a photograph of green leaves was, in fact, marijuana (kudos to his school for early anti-drug programs!) During the four Saturdays of the event, thousands of people saw our photographs, and many stopped to talk about the power of photography in their lives. We met many fellow photo buffs and posed for the traditional "tourist snap." People told us they wished their cities had an event like ours, and some schoolteachers asked if we would bring a similar event with teaching workshop to the Boston public schools At the end of each installation event this summer, we stood together for a "Human Gallery"! To capture some of the excitement and interest in City Projects, we've made a video about the event which will be shown at the Foundation Lounge exhibit. At our opening on Dec. 10, you will also be able to meet many of the photographers of this first City Project, other members of the BPC, and view and bid for the original photographs at the opening's auction. At the end of the evening, the photos will be sold to the highest bidder.
