Our theme for the North End is to show the groups and communities people form: civic, social, and religious. We learned why neighbors choose to belong to groups, to celebrate the unique qualities of the North End, and to work for a better future for all residents. Our photographic subjects, whether in cafes, barbershops, committee meetings, or religious congregations, showed pride in their neighborhood and a desire to preserve the best aspects during the inevitable changes all cities undergo. Whether we were photographing a civic meeting, bocci tournament, or people talking on street corners or in cafes, we were warmly welcomed. It was heartening to meet so many people who cared about each other and about their neighborhood. We hope our photos do justice to this proud community, and will continue to document the life of the North End.
